How to Keep Your Stainless Steel Appliances Looking Shiny Newthumbnail

Stainless steel appliances are elegant, beautiful and can add a modern touch to your home decor. However, these appliances also require almost daily care to keep them looking shiny new because of stainless steel's tendency to easily show fingerprints and other smudges. The good news is that keeping your stainless steel appliances looking like new only requires a short amount of cleaning time.

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Spray bottle
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Vinegar (white or apple cider)
  • Olive oil
    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. Spray on a microfiber cloth. Adjust the vinegar mixture, as needed. Increase the vinegar to water ratio or use the vinegar undiluted if the appliance is especially greasy.

    • 2

Use circular motions to clean the surface of the stainless steel appliance. Rinse the microfiber cloth with water when it becomes too dirty and then reapply the vinegar mixture.

    • 3

Repeat Steps 1 and 2 until all trace of grease and grime is removed. Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to remove any streaks.

    • 4

Fold the cloth used in Step 3 into a manageable size. Drizzle olive oil on the cloth in the shape of an "S" to make sure the surface is covered without using too much oil in one area.

    • 5

Use a circular motion to work the olive oil into the surface of the stainless steel appliance until only the shine remains. Refold the cloth to use the cleaner areas or use a fresh, dry cloth for the final buffing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean stainless steel with vinegar and water no more than once a week.

  • For daily cleaning, use a microfiber cloth dampened with water to keep stainless steel shiny.

  • Do not use baking soda on your stainless steel because it may scratch the surface.
